“…The prevalence of these infections is considerably higher among high risk groups (HRGs) such as female commercial sex workers (FCSWs), ranging from 20-30%. 7 In the present study, 19% of female commercial sex workers reported history of sexually transmitted infections which is in concordance with other studies on FCSWs of India in which the number of FCSWs having reported STI episodes was in the similar range. A qualitative study conducted to assess the psychological morbidity among female commercial sex workers at Victoria Hospital, Bangalore, showed 22% of their respondents were suffering from sexually transmitted diseases.…”

The same definitions have been used in many published studies targeting heterosexual males in China [ 44 , 45 , 46 , 47 , 48 ]. The following questions were used to measure their sexual behaviors with NRPs and FSWs: (1) did you have sexual intercourse with an NRP in the past 6 months?…”

“…(2) Although community-based surveys by Indian Council of Medical Research have shown STIs and RTIs to be prevalent in about 6% of adult Indians, (3) many studies have documented the prevalence of these infections ranging from 6% to 61% with a considerably greater occurrence among high-risk groups. (4,5,6,7). Both men and women are affected by STIs/RTIs, but the larger vaginal surface in women makes them more vulnerable as reflected in the national survey.…”
