Predictors of mortality in patients infected with carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Abstract: Background: Carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii (CRAB) tops the list of threats to human health. Studies exploring predictors of mortality in patients with CRAB infection produced conflicting results. Methods: A systematic search of the PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane Library databases was performed from inception to June 2018 to identify studies reporting mortality predictors in patients infected with CRAB. Two authors independently assessed trials for inclusion and data extraction. Results: A total… Show more

“…SUL-DUR is being developed for patients with serious infections due to members of the ABC, including HABP/VABP. For infections caused by ABC isolates, high rates of multidrug resistance contribute to high morbidity, extended hospitalization, and excess mortality (4,6,27). Currently, colistin is the only antibiotic with consistent activity against ABC strains.…”

“…CRAB infections carry high mortality that was reported up to 61.8% [21,22]. Bacteremic infections in particular have poor outcomes [22,23]. We found a high crude mortality with blood isolates but that needs to consider that those cases of CRAB represented only a small fraction (16.3%) of the studied cohort.…”

“…In our research, PMB treatment of CRGNB infection patients with ICU-related mortality was 12%, hospital mortality was 15%, 28-day mortality was 40%. In infected carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii patients without appropriate empirical antimicrobial therapy, the overall mortality rate was 86.1% [21]. The ICU mortality rate was 45.2% in critically ill patients infected with CRGNB who received tigecycline therapy [22], and the in-hospital mortality rate was 62.5% [23].…”
