“…Results of Omary research ( 71 ) suggested that higher education levels might play a protective role against suicidal ideation among men with depression. Our results show an opposite correlation—vocational education is a statistically significant positive factor related with the level of depression in men with diagnosed depression.…”

“…In the study of Griffiths et al ( 88 ) for single and divorced men aged 25 and over, suicide rates were around three times higher than for married men throughout 1983–2004. Results of Omary ( 71 ) suggested that marriage might play a protective role for suicidal ideation among men with depression. Our results present a completely different dimension—bachelor status is a characteristic protective factor for suicidal behavior among men with diagnosed depression.…”

“…Past studies examined risk factors for SI, SP, and SA among AA males with and without major depressive episodes (MDE), compared to White males. Results have shown that compared to White males, AA males with and without MDE were at risk for SI and SA even after adjusting for covariates 19,20 . However, these earlier findings do not show the within-group risk differences among AA males with and without MDE and raise speculations that unexamined covariates could impact differences in suicide risk between AA males with and without MDE.…”

“…However, results show that the chances for attempting suicide among AA with and without MDE were equal even after controlling for education, age, and income. Scholars who compared the risk for SA among AA and White males with and without MDE found that AA males with and without MDE were at greater risk for suicidal attempts 19,20 . The current study confirmed that the AA male groups with and without MDE differ in their risk of thinking and planning suicide.…”

“…Although health determinants can act as a buffer against the increased risk for risky health behaviors among adults with MDE (Catalano et al, 2011;Mirowsky & Ross, 2001;Omary, 2020;Rendall et al, 2011), evidence is lacking on binge alcohol drinking risk among adults with MDE while adjusting for demographic confounders. Identifying sociodemographic populations with MDE who are at increased risk for BAU would allow for the development of focused prevention programs to meet the particular needs of each population.…”
