Predictive value of serum progesterone level on β-hCG check day in women with previous repeated miscarriages after in vitro fertilization

Abstract: ObjectiveTo evaluate the predictive value of the progesterone level at the beta-human chorionic gonadotropin (β-hCG) check day for ongoing pregnancy maintenance in in vitro fertilization (IVF) cycles in women with previous unexplained repeated miscarriages.Materials and methodsOne hundred and forty-eight women, with visible gestational sac after IVF, were recruited in this observational study. All subjects had unexplained recurrent miscarriages in more than two previous IVF cycles. The progesterone level at th… Show more

“…This was in complete accordance with the recent study of Kim et al [8] who aimed to evaluate the predictive value of the progesterone level at the beta-human chorionic gonadotropin (β-hCG) check day for ongoing pregnancy maintenance. They concluded that progesterone level at 14 days after oocyte retrieval can be a good predictive marker for ongoing pregnancy maintenance.…”

“…The combined cut-off value of progesterone >25.2 ng/mL and β-hCG >126.5 mIU/mL may suggest a good prognosis. 19 Similar findings were seen in studies conducted by Abdelazim IA et al 20…”

“…hCG and progesterone were analyzed concomitantly to determine whether their levels would be able to rapidly predict whether or not doubtful early pregnancy will continue, and the results provided a 48-h diagnosis of viability in 41.1% of patients (172). Another study shows that hCG and progesterone levels 14 days after oocyte retrieval may be predictive for continued pregnancy in patients with recurrent miscarriages (173). Another team showed similar results with the analysis of hCG 11 days after embryo transfer (28).…”
