Predictive value of [-2]propsa (p2psa) and its derivatives for the prostate cancer detection in the 2.0 to 10.0ng/mL PSA range

Abstract: Introduction To assess predictive value of new tumor markers, precursor of prostate specific antigen (p2PSA) and its derivates-%p2PSA and prostate health index (PHI) in detection of patients with indolent and aggressive prostate cancer (PC) in a subcohort of man whose total PSA ranged from 2 to 10ng/mL.Materials and Methods This cross-sectional study included 129 consecutive male patients aged over 50 years, with no previous history of PC and with normal digital rectal examination findings, but with serum PSA … Show more

“…(Guazzoni et al, ) and has been incorporated into the prostate health index (PHI) by a mathematical equation [PHI = (p2PSA/fPSA) × (square root of PSA)]. PHI and %p2PSA may be a potential tool in detecting PCa and also providing Gleason score differentiation (Vukovic, Djordjevic, Bojanic, Babic, & Soldatovic, ).…”

“…Furthermore, we analysed PSA, AR, COX-2, Bcl-2, and caspase3 levels through immunohistochemical analysis: PAC could reduce the expression of PSA, AR, COX-2, and Bcl-2, and increase the expression of Caspase-3 in tumour samples. PSA is the specific biomarker of prostate cancer, the abnormal increases of PSA indicate the occurrence of prostate cancer45. AR plays an important role in the carcinogenesis and progress of prostate cancer; increased levels of AR expression predict the metastatic progression of prostate cancer4647.…”

“…In recent years, [−2]proPSA (p2PSA), %p2PSA and prostate health index ( phi ) have gradually gained acceptance by the scientific community and have become the primary biomarkers investigated for the diagnosis of PCa. Research studies have already been carried out on p2PSA, %p2PSA and phi and the majority of these studies were performed in PCa patients with total prostate-specific antigen (tPSA) levels of 4–10 ng/mL (referred to as the “gray zone”) and in patients with PSA levels >10 ng/mL 711. While tPSA may have early diagnostic and screening value, there is very little evidence in this regard.…”
