Predictive Factors of Survival Time of Breast Cancer in Kurdistan Province of Iran between 2006-2014: A Cox Regression Approach

Abstract: Breast cancer is a major cause of morbidity and cancer related mortality among women. The prevalence of breast cancer was reported as increasing in most of the Asian countries (Aini abdullah et al., 2013;Najafi et al., 2013). Iran is also sharing the same experience. The etiology of breast cancer is largely unknown; therefore there is no established primary prevention strategy. So, the main strategy is the establishment of screening protocols and early detection programs, which at least theoretically can impro… Show more

“…Some other studies also indicated similar results [25, 27, 40, 41]. Also the results indicated patients with negative HER2 status survived longer than patients with positive HER2 status, which is consistent with results of some previous studies [40, 41]. In addition, the present study yielded that patients with positive PR status had less survival time than the patients with negative PR status.…”

“…The results indicated that the patients that developed metastasis had shorter life time compared to patients who did not develop metastasis. “…Compared with the reference group, higher probability malignant calcifications group was associated with more lymph nodes involvement with statistic significance, while other groups have no statistic significance. Axillary nodal status always remains one of the most important prognostic indicators in breast cancer (Goodman et al, 2014;Karimi et al, 2014). Knowing the status of the lymph nodes is important for accurate staging and appropriate selection of subsequent treatment in breast cancer.…”

“…Liver metastasis in breast cancer patients is an independent prognostic factor for very poor outcomes 4,5 , as median survival of breast cancer patients with liver metastasis ranges from 4.8 to 15 months [6][7][8][9] . In contrast, breast cancer patients with lung or bone metastasis have median survival rates of 9 to 27.4 months 8,9 and 16.3 to 56 months 8,[10][11][12] , respectively. Metastasis is a multistep process, referred to as the metastatic cascade, which begins with tumor cell dissemination in the primary tumor and ends with patient mortality due to the seeding and outgrowth of circulating tumor cells within a distant organ [13][14][15] .…”
