Predictive Control for MPPT in a Single-Stage Photovoltaic System

Abstract: Predictive control has risen as a plausible option in the control of power converters for photovoltaic utilisation. In this work, a predictive control scheme is proposed to obtain the maximum power point in a photovoltaic array coupled directly to a grid-connected DC/AC power converter. The architecture considered avoids the use of the DC/DC stage, reducing the losses related to the inclusion of the boost stage. The introduced control strategy is proved by simulations in Matlab&Simulink, demonstrating flexibil… Show more

“…Once the derivative of Equation ( 18) is obtained, the minimisation of J is known to give a state feedback control law in the form u = −Kx, but it can be rewritten by Equation (19), with x ss and u ss the steady-state values of the state and input variables, respectively. u = −K(x k+1 − x ss ) + u ss (19) The authors in [61] presented the following control law, which represents the optimiser block.…”

“…When seen from the standpoint of the microgrid, the main grid is considered as stiff; then, the microgrid has to take as given voltage and frequency levels [16]. In this operation, power converters are controlled to inject power as a function of the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) of the DGs [17][18][19][20]. In islanded mode, the microgrids' operation is not affected by the main grid.…”
