Prediction of Wear Behaviour of Almg1sicu Hybrid MMC Using Taguchi with Grey Rational Analysis

Abstract: In this paper, investigation focuses on preparing hybrid metal matrix composites of AlMg1SiCu alloy as base material by incorporating 9% SiC and varying 3 to 9 % of graphite particulates varying insteps of 3 by vortex method. The wear and frictional properties of metal matrix hybrid composites were studied by performing dry sliding wear test using pin on disc wear test apparatus as per ASTM standards G -99. Experiments were conducted based on the plan of experiments generated through Taguchi's technique. A L9 … Show more

“…Among them, hypereutectic Al-Si alloys exhibit great potency in various applications such as automobiles, aerospace, electronics, and optics [4,5]. Hypereutectic Al-Si alloys are very promising in automobile applications, i.e., pistons, compressor cylinders, propeller casings, rims, and disc brakes, due to their low thermal expansion and high wear resistance due to the presence of primary Si particles (PSP) [6,7]. Termal resistance, high specifc strength, abrasion resistance, and corrosion resistance are only a few of the properties of Al-Si composites [8,9].…”

“…[14][15][16][17] In another experiment, it was suggested that the wear resistance of the composites were increased with the addition of Al2O3 particle content and the rate of wear is significantly less as compared to pure matrix material. [18][19][20] An experimental analysis was carried out on ten metal matrix composites produced by new powder injection technique where the toughness of the composite was mainly controlled by the precipitated segments. From the results, it was observed that cracks were always instigated during the matrix interfaces and depending upon the particle adhesion.…”
