Prediction of Vapor Composition in Methanol-, 1-Propanol-, and 2-Propanol-Water Systems Containing Salts at Saturation

Abstract: Equilibrium vapor compositions are calculated from boiling point-liquid composition data in which the ternary system is treated as a pseudo-binary. The Wilson equation in either its two-or three-constant form is used for the correlation. The inclusion of the observed vapor composition in a correlation using @ / W a s the dependent variable is shown to lead to a significantly poorer prediction in the majority of cases.

“…Examination of Derived Data. Recently Jaques (1976a) has shown that it is better to use a T-x fit rather than a GE/RT-x fit where the measured vapor compositions are used in the correlation. The area test uses Tl-T-x-y data and this also mitigates against its use.…”
