Prediction of successful labor induction with very unfavorable cervix: A comparison of six scores

Abstract: Labor induction is frequently used in contemporary obstetrics practice and its rates have continued to increase. 1 Recent studies have led to modifications of paradigms for labor induction. Indeed, labor induction at 39 weeks of pregnancy in low-risk nulliparous women results in decreased cesarean rates without increasing adverse perinatal outcomes. 2,3 However, predicting successful labor induction, which is defined as vaginal delivery, is still a challenge, especially in women with an unfavorable cervix. 4,5… Show more

“…9 Two other reports previously applied calculator 1 to multiparous external populations of 256 and 600 individuals, with AUROCs of 0.61 and 0.69, respectively. 22,28,29 In our larger study limited strictly to nulliparous patients, the AUROC was 0.53. The AUROC of calculator 2 was 0.72 in the original derivation cohort but only 0.57 in ours.…”

“…To our excellent knowledge, the publication about the efficacy of dinoprostone vaginal insert in cervical ripening in the term pregnancy with oligohydramnios has remained limited. Especially, influencing factors relative to successful cervical ripening (SCR) have been differently described from this study to another study 15–18 . Thus, we conducted this study to evaluate the effectiveness, safety, and success rate of dinoprostone 10 mg controlled‐release vaginal insert as well as finding some factors attributable to SCR at our center.…”

“…A higher Bishop score indicates a riper and more favorable cervix, increasing the probability of vaginal delivery and reducing the rate of cesarean section and its associated complications (4)(5)(6)(7)(8). Previous studies have shown that a low Bishop score ( ≤ 6) is associated with prolonged labor pain and an increased risk of cesarean delivery (7)(8)(9).…”
