Human milk has a balance of nutrients and bioactive compounds, and it must be the exclusive food source during the first six months of the infant's life. In cases where the woman is unable to breastfeed, due to hypogalactia or pre-existing disease, the use of donated human milk, available in human milk banks, is recommended. Currently, in the human milk banks the processing applied for greater conservation is Holder pasteurization. Therefore, the objective of this work is to perform a search in the literature about new possible treatments to be applied to human milk, and its influence on its physical-chemical composition; and in this sense, the studied processes were: Holder pasteurization, lyophilization, spray-drying, high hydrostatic pressure, high temperature and short time, and short wave ultraviolet irradiation. For that, a search was performed in databases, and 126 articles were selected to carry out this review according to the keywords used. It was observed that the studied treatments can be applied for the processing and conservation of human milk, once it was applied in matrices with similar composition.

A secagem de soluções por atomização, nos diversos setores industriais, é amplamente empregada. Entretanto, a otimização do processo, em sua grande maioria, é realizada de modo empírico e implica em certo custo às empresas, além do tempo despendido com testes experimentais. O objetivo do estudo foi observar a variação da temperatura do gás e da fração de massa do vapor de água, e de valores médios do diâmetro das gotas e sua temperatura no secador de pulverização, bem como à medida que a temperatura e o tamanho da água individual diminuem à medida que viajam através do secador de spray dryer. A modelagem e simulação de tais processos de secagem surge como ferramenta no auxílio à otimização, permitindo que diversos parâmetros sejam estudados e variados e, portanto, que a influência de cada um desses parâmetros no sistema seja estimada. Sua principal vantagem é a possibilidade de aperfeiçoar processos, gerando uma economia de custos e melhoria da qualidade dos produtos. Esta ferramenta tem sido muito empregada em estudos que investigam o efeito do escoamento de ar no interior de spray dryers. Desta forma, para compreender como é feita a simulação em CFD, utilizou-se uma malha pronta de um modelo de um secador por pulverização, e a partir dos dados fornecidos realizou-se uma simulação por meio do software ANSYS CFX versão 18.1. Os resultados da simulação foram promissores, sendo comparados para levar a um melhor entendimento da operação do secador por spray.

A regime map for the normal surface impact of wet and dry agglomerates

The normal surface impacts of wet and dry agglomerates are simulated in a discrete element modeling framework. While the impact behavior of dry agglomerates has been addressed previously, similar studies on wet agglomerate impact are missing. By adding a small amount of liquid to a dry agglomerate, the impact behavior changes significantly. The impact behavior of the agglomerates at different moisture contents and impact energies are analyzed through postimpact parameters and coupled to their microscopic and macroscopic properties. While increasing the impact energy breaks more interparticle bonds and intensifies damage and fragmentation, increasing the moisture content is found to provide the agglomerates with higher deformability and resistance against breakage. It is shown that the interplay of the two latter parameters together with the agglomerate structural strength creates various impact scenarios, which are classified into different regimes and addressed with a regime map. © 2018 American Institute of Chemical Engineers AIChE J, 64: 1975–1985, 2018
