Prediction of disease activity of Crohn's disease through fecal calprotectin evaluated by balloon‐assisted endoscopy

Abstract: Fecal calprotectin showed a significant correlation with the intestinal inflammation evaluated with BAE even in patients with only small intestinal disease. FC is useful for the evaluation of CD including both the small and large intestines.

“…The strongest correlation of the schizophrenia PGS was with the PGS for WBC#, consistent with studies suggesting a potential correlation between WBC# itself and schizophrenia risk 45 . Our analyses also uncovered the shared genetic basis for previous trait-level observations for EO# and allergy disease 46 as well as WBC# and Crohn's disease 47 , while also demonstrating extensive shared polygenic basis for blood cell traits and rheumatoid arthritis, coronary artery disease, schizophrenia and Crohn's disease, suggesting that, via shared genetics, blood cell traits may be either indicators or mediators for a variety of common disorders.…”

“…However, serum CRP levels may not be elevated even in patients with active mucosal inflammation [22]. Although fCal is correlated with mucosal inflammatory activity in UC [23], limited information is available regarding whether it is correlated with disease activity during small intestinal mucosal inflammation in CD [24][25][26]. Furthermore, stool sampling is troublesome for patients.…”

“…In the obtained funnel plot, three out of 17 included in this meta-analysis of applications of FC to diagnose MH, are found outside of the 95% (p-value 0.05) boundaries. These were Jusué et al [38] with a High Range test kit, Lobatón et al [34], and Iwamoto et al [37]. A tendency for a higher DOR in studies with a smaller tested population was observed.…”
