Prediction of Corrosion Resistance of Concrete Containing Natural Pozzolan from Compressive Strength

Abstract: This paper applied the densified mixture design algorithm(DMDA) method by incorporating ternary pozzolans (fly ash, slag and silica fume; mix I and mix II) to design high strength concrete (HSC) mixtures with w/cm ratios from 0.24 to 0.30. Concrete without pozzolans was used as a control group (mix III, w/c from 0.24 to 0.30), and silica fume (5%) was added as a substitute for part of the cement and set as mix IV. Experiments performed compressive strength, four-point resistance meter to measure the conductivi… Show more

“…Figure 7 shows the effect of NP amount on chloride diffusion, and the obtained results show improvement in resistance to accelerated chloride penetration of the NP cement compared to STD cement. Resistance to ion chloride penetration is related to the refined pore structure of the concrete, and the reduction of the electrical conductivity (Al-Swaidani et al , 2015), porosity taking place in the concrete is mainly in cement paste phase which is the important property for diffusion mechanism related to durability of concrete, the addition of NP decrease the permeability and the porosity which led to decrease ion chloride penteration beyond certain NP ratio (Khan and Alhozaimy, 2011). The finer particles of NP develop a discontinuous pore in the concrete structure and completely fill up the void.…”

“…In order to protect the environment, Pozzolanic material can be used as partial substitute up to 30% in the production of blended cement. Due to this addition CO 2 release to the environment can be reduced [1]. When palm kernel shell is used as a replacement for aggregate, there is decrease in workability and strength of the concrete and also it increases the water absorption.…”
