Prediction of centrifugal compressor instabilities for internal combustion engines operating cycle simulation

Abstract: Centrifugal compressors, which serve the purpose of internal combustion engines (ICE) supercharging, have a region of unstable operation. The compressor instabilities can be distinguished as rotating stall, mild, or deep surge, depending on the compression system parameters. All these types of compressor operation should be avoided for engine durability and long service life. Therefore, it is important to provide fast, stable, and correct prediction of compressor instabilities at ICE operating cycle simulation… Show more

“…These can be applied to single-zone or double-zone open thermodynamic systems. Paying special attention to simulating the performance of the advanced turbocharger, as implemented in the computational software, helps in accurately predicting the behaviour of the engine under operational conditions, as shown by Minchev et al [21].…”

“…In [41] presented the concept of a decision support system for the design of combined propulsion systems. The authors in [42] engaged in predictive modeling by predicting the instability of centrifugal compressor in internal combustion engines. Their subsequent work, published in [43], presented the performance of a digital dual test rig for marine diesel engines.…”
