Prediction of air permeability coefficient and water-vapor resistance of 3D textile layer

Abstract: This study presents a computational model for investigation of the air permeability coefficient and water-vapor resistance coefficient through 3D textile layer. The effective values of the coefficients are highly dependent on the volumetric internal structure of the layer. The computational study of air and water vapor flow has been performed a microscale finite element model of the representative volume of the textile layer by taking into account the real configuration the yarns and filaments. The effective v… Show more

“…42 The air permeability is a metrics of the air flow rate passing a unit area or unit volume of a specimen under different pressures from one side of the specimen to the other. 43 The CA specimens covered the clamping area of 38.3 cm 2 under the constant pressure of 125 Pa. The airflow was measured five times per coating condition of the CA membranes.…”

“…Recently, multiphysics simulation tools such as FLUENT, ABAQUS, and COMSOL Multiphysics have gained popularity. Such tools are now often used to model fabric systems and predict the desired physical properties or functionality of textiles [31][32][33]. COMSOL Multiphysics allows the simulation of multiple coupled physical properties such as the coupling of heat and moisture transport in fabrics.…”

“…It may affect the wearing comfort properties in several different ways. For instance, liquid and water vapor transmission properties are closely related to the air permeability value (Gadeikyt_ e et al, 2022). In addition, air permeability describes the retaining ability of filtration materials (Puszkarz and Kruci nska, 2018).…”
