Prediction Model of HBsAg Seroclearance in Patients with Chronic HBV Infection

Abstract: Background. Prediction of HBsAg seroclearance, defined as the loss of circulating HBsAg with or without development of antibodies for HBsAg in patients with chronic hepatitis B (CHB), is highly difficult and challenging due to its low incidence. This study is aimed at developing and validating a nomogram for prediction of HBsAg loss in CHB patients. Methods. We analyzed a total of 1398 patients with CHB. Two-thirds of the patients were randomly assigned to the training set (n=918), and one-third were assigned … Show more

“…Several large sample-sized studies showed a negative correlation between HBsAg and the risk of NAFLD in the future[ 16 , 17 ]. In addition, higher BMI also helps the seroclearance of HBsAg[ 18 ]. Consistent with previous studies[ 19 ], our results showed that concomitant HBV infection led to a lower degree of steatosis.…”

“…The phenotypes include patients who underwent HBsAg seroclearance before the age of 60 and patients who demonstrated a high level (> 1000 IU/mL) of HBsAg after the age of 60 as case and control, respectively. HBsAg seroclearance is the absence of circulating HBsAg with or without the presence of antibodies in patients with CHB, hence considering it a functional cure for the infection 14,34 . For further details regarding the data, refer to this paper 14 .…”

“…Previous studies have identified several factors related to HBsAg loss e.g. gender, HBV DNA levels, Hepatitis B e antigen (HBeAg) status and ALT level at baseline (10)(11)(12). Apart from the direct action of immune cells, cytokines are also thought to mediate HBsAg loss (13).…”
