Predicting health-related quality of life (EQ-5D-5 L) and capability wellbeing (ICECAP-A) in the context of opiate dependence using routine clinical outcome measures: CORE-OM, LDQ and TOP

Abstract: BackgroundEconomic evaluation normally requires information to be collected on outcome improvement using utility values. This is often not collected during the treatment of substance use disorders making cost-effectiveness evaluations of therapy difficult. One potential solution is the use of mapping to generate utility values from clinical measures. This study develops and evaluates mapping algorithms that could be used to predict the EuroQol-5D (EQ-5D-5 L) and the ICEpop CAPability measure for Adults (ICECAP… Show more

“…14 For patients with chronic conditions, the outcomes of healthcare should not be evaluated to restore physical health but to improve their HRQoL in order for them to live in independence, dignity and comfort. 33 The MID estimate in multimorbidity of chronic conditions is essential for providing meaningful interpretation of the effects of an intervention on HRQoL and to classify changes in patient well-being.…”

“…Although few individuals were included in the population integrated into the groups with higher morbidity (8 and 9), a sample was obtained with a homogeneous number of individuals in all the groups, with 306 patients in all. Other similar studies [31, 32, 34] used smaller samples, with 238 patients and 83 patients, respectively. Selecting sample with subjects aged over 18 provided us with a mean age of 53 years, which is older than that of the general population (39.2 years).…”
