Precursor effect on the Fe-doped cryptomelane (Fe-OMS-2) prepared via one-step sol-gel route as heterogeneous Fenton catalyst for degradation of methylene blue

Abstract: The pristine cryptomelane (OMS-2) and Fe-OMS-2 (1%, 5%, and 10%) have been successfully synthesized by a one-step sol-gel method and characterized by XRD, SEM, BET surface area and AAS. The incorporation of Fe (III) within the structure of OMS-2 leads to an increase in surface area, pore-volume, and catalytic activity for the degradation of methylene blue (MB) and a decrease in the content of K+ and average of pore diameter. The catalytic test indicated that the catalytic activity of Fe-OMS-2 1% is considerabl… Show more

“…The tunnel or layer structures occur depending upon the arrangement of MnO6 octahedral units, which result in the formation of 1x1, 2x1, 2x2, and 3x3 tunnels [2,3]. Many manganese oxides have been succesfully synthesized by various synthetic method, such as sol-gel [4][5][6][7], solid-state [3], precipitation [8][9][10][11], reflux [12] and hydrothermal [13]. Manganese oxides exist in nature as mixed valences Mn (Mn 2+ /Mn 3+ /Mn 4+ ) that could facilitate redox reaction.…”

“…One of the most widely used analytical methods is UV-Vis spectrophotometry, which utilizes ultraviolet and visible light to measure the absorbance of a chemical compound in a sample. Where the absorbance value of the light that is passed will be proportional to the concentration of the solution in the cuvette [7]. However, before this method can be used, it is necessary to validate the analytical method first.…”
