“…The comparable blast cell activity and the nearly identical slopes of the labelling curves of bone marrow lymphocytes during injections of 3H-TdR demonstrates that the production of lymphocytes and the sojourn of cells in the marrow are comparable in Splx and Sh-Splx normal mice. Furthermore, the findings in Splx nude mice of 'normal' kinetics of the remaining bone marrow lymphocytes and unchanged blood lymphocyte levels indicate that the increased numbers of newly-formed lymphocytes in the peripheral tissues af Splx mice may be maintained in part by an increased release from the bone marrow of 'in excess' produced lymphocytes (Rosse 1973), which are allowed to survive outside the bone marrow as a compensation for a loss of thymusderivedpredominantly long-lived (Osmond 1972) -lymphocytes.…”
