Precoding in Multigateway Multibeam Satellite Systems

Abstract: This paper considers a multigateway multibeam satellite system with multiple feeds per beam. In these systems, each gateway serves a set of beams (cluster) so that the overall data traffic is generated at different geographical areas. Full frequency reuse among beams is considered so that interference mitigation techniques are mandatory. Precisely, this paper aims at designing the precoding scheme which, in contrast to single gateway schemes, entails two main challenges. First, the precoding matrix shall be se… Show more

“…Moreover, with the SVD of H−mR H m = Ur,−mΣr,−mV H r,−m , the matrix V 0 r,−m refers to the null space of (H−mR H m ). The reader can refer to [5] and [10] for more methodologies to find the null space of a matrix in case of K−m > Nm. It is worth to note here that the rest of the analytic analysis of this section is developed taking into account K−m < Nm degree of freedom at the payload.…”

“…Even though this link is placed at the Q/V band where a large bandwidth is available, the use of multiple gateways is required [7]. Since the data is precoded in isolated geographic areas, the precoding technique shall be reconsidered [8]. Based on the results of [8], even though the gateways exchange all the channel state information, the precoding gains are limited compared to the single gateway case.…”
