Preclinical study in a corneal bioreactor of the effectiveness of amniotic membrane of umbilical cord extract (AMUCE) for the treatment of corneal deep stromal ulcerations
Abstract:PurposeOur patented corneal bioreactor (BR) improves the long‐term survival of human corneas ex vivo by restoring intraocular pressure and renewal of storage medium.AimTo use the BR to test the efficacy of eye drops containing devitalized ground amniotic membrane of umbilical cord extract (AMUCE) to treat deep stromal ulcerations. AMUCE contains high level of proteoglycans, collagen and physiological growth factors.MethodsOnly pairs of human corneas (with ECD > 800 cells/mm2) were used to obtain best possib… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
