Precision measurements of gamma-ray energies up to 2 MeV using a 2 m curved-crystal monochromator

Abstract: Precision measurements of gamma-ray energies up to 2 MeV were performed using a 2m curved-crystal monochromator. Effectwe source activities of less than 40 mCur were used for the measurements of the transitions in the 2 MeV region. In the 150 keV region, effectxve source actwltles of less than 200 #Cur may be used. Measurements have been performed on the transitions of energies less than 2150 keV which follow the decay of In11~(54 mm), Mn 5n (2.6 h) and Sc 46 (85 d). In addition, results are presented which in… Show more

“…The curved-crystal spectrometer energy measurements reported in this paper were taken on The University of Michigan 2 m curved-crystal spectrometer utilizing the Ge(022) planes as diffraction planes. This spectrometer and the experimental techniques associated with it have been described previously [16][17][18]. Each curved-crystal spectrometer source was an Er203-epoxy mixture irradiated for approximately 24 h in The University of Michigan Ford Nuclear Reactor (thermal neutron flux ~ 3 × 1013 neutrons/see • cm2).…”

“…The University of Michigan curved-crystal spectrometer and the experimental techniques associated with it have been described previously [24][25][26]. The curvedcrystal spectrometer source was a Tb203-epoxy mixture irradiated for a period of eight months in the University of Michigan Ford Nuclear Reactor (thermal neutron flux ~ 3 x 1013 neutrons/cm 2 • see).…”

“…6 where they are compared with the levels observed in the present work and in the 56 Mn decay. 2, 28 Recent inelastic-scattering experiments with protons, 29,30 neutrons, 31 and alpha particles 32 have yielded evidence for doublet levels at 3120 (3~~ or 4 + :l + ), 30,32 3450(1+:3+), 30 -32 and 3600[0+: (2)] 30,32 keV with spacings of 3, 3, and 6 keV, respectively. Neither of the levels at 3600 keV was observed in this work.…”
