Precise Energies ofCa40Levels

Abstract: Energies of excited levels of 40 Ca have been measured with high precision using a Ge(Li) detector to observe 7-ray transitions. The present work, which resolves some discrepancies in the literature, yields £* = 3737.1±0.3 keV for the lowest 3~ level and £*=7658.9±0.5 keV for the 40 Ca T-l analog of the 40 Sc ground state. Energies of a number of other levels of 40 Ca are also given.

“…Experimentally, 40Ca has been studied in inelastic scattering of electrons [3, 4, 51, protons [6, 7, 81, deuterons [9], 3He [lo] and 4He ions [ l l , 121 as well as in nuclear reactions like (p, y) [13], (d, n) [14] and (3He, d) [15] on 39K. Special techniques have been used [16,17,181 to study certain levels in doca. For medium energy incident particles there exist some measurements on inelastic proton scattering at around 150 MeV [19,20,211.…”
