RESUMOO Brasil se destaca no mercado internacional em relação à produção de alimentos de origem animal, por isso, o manejo reprodutivo e o emprego das biotecnologias da reprodução animal se constituem em pontos importantes neste cenário. Contudo, conhecer as direções das investigações e as principais biotécnicas que estão sendo estudadas e empregadas é necessário. Desta forma, o objetivo deste trabalho foi obter um panorama das publicações científicas sobre reprodução animal e biotécnicas da reprodução, por meio de uma análise cienciométrica. A busca dos artigos científicos foi realizada em 2018 aplicando os descritores reprodução animal, biotécnicas, biotecnologia da reprodução, biotecnologia reprodutiva, inseminação artificial, produção de embriões in vitro, maturação in vitro, cultivo in vitro, fertilização in vitro, aspiração folicular e transferência de embrião, o que resultou em 314 artigos, os quais foram analisados quanto ao ano de publicação, eixo temático, espécie animal, identificação dos principais periódicos e a classificação dos periódicos segundo o critério QUALIS/CAPES. Os resultados, analisados de forma descritiva, permitiram observar um reduzido número de publicações sobre o tema no período analisado, porém, nota-se um comportamento crescente nas publicações, e elevada qualidade das mesmas, as quais versaram, principalmente, sobre temas como sêmen e produção in vitro de embriões, e com relação à espécie, a bovina se destacou. Com base no estudo realizado, e considerando a importância da reprodução para as cadeias produtivas animais, sugere-se que mais pesquisas sejam conduzidas sobre este tema e, inclusive, que associem ao foco ambiental, a fim de fomentar o desenvolvimento sustentável destas cadeias produtivas. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of three different concentrations of discontinuous gradients of percoll (90/45, 80/40, and 70/35) in the outcome of porcine in vitro fertilization (IVF) and its influence on further embryo development and quality. Embryo viability was assessed by the expression of estrogen receptors (E 2 R) and cleaved caspase-3 (CC3). The highest percoll concentration (90/45) resulted in the lowest embryo production (24.9%) in comparison with 80/40 (37.5%) and 70/35 (40.0%), with the production being similar between the two lowest concentrations. The hatching rate for 90/45 (26.2%) was lower than for 80/40 (45.5%), and both were similar to the Group 70/35 (32.9%). The hatched embryos from the concentration 90/45 showed the lowest proportion of E 2 R expression (3.6%), while the Groups 80/40 (22.6%) and 70/35 (39.3%) had a similar proportion of expression. The live embryos that did not hatch until Day 8 of culture presented a higher CC3 proportion for Group 90/45 (18.3%), in comparison with 80/40 (12.7%) and 70/35 (10.7%), with the latter two being similar. In conclusion, adjustments in percoll concentration used for sperm selection before porcine IVF can improve embryo production and competence for pregnancy recognition and establishment. Polyspermic fertilisation has been a continual problem in porcine in vitro fertilisation. Over the years, researchers have tried to resolve this persistent problem, but have not been entirely successful in their endeavour. This can be attributed to several factors. This review discusses the role of sperm capacitation in the in vitro fertilisation and the most recent studies on the capacitation media. This includes the results obtained by testing the effect of various compounds on sperm capacitation. Additionally, the importance of the oviductal fluid on the porcine oocytes prior to fertilisation is also discussed. This is of significance, as the experiments show that oviductal fluid is crucial for the pre-fertilisation zona pellucida hardening. Also, the significance of using high quality oocytes for the in vitro fertilisation is highlighted. Lastly, the different and latest techniques to prevent or reduce polyspermic fertilisation have been reviewed.
