“…The results showed that clinical symptoms, such as splenomegaly [42], [43], portal hypertension [44], [45] and dysregulated liver function [46], [47] were ameliorated by anti-fibrosis treatment with PZQ. Low dose treatment with PZQ did not show significant effects on hepatic fibrosis, which may be due to the quick metabolism of this drug in liver [48]. Because of the probable formation of fibrotic spleens [47], the enlarged spleens were not reversed by treatment of PZQ in advanced schistosomiasis mice.…”

“…Commercially available PZQ products in China are all for oral use and need to be administered repeatedly for several days to obtain proper maintenance of an effective blood concentration to get adequate treatment of schistosomiasis, which limits their clinical use in large animals (Dayan, ; Watson, ). In this study, two new high‐concentration (30%) PZQ oily suspensions were developed successfully by suspending PZQ in oil phase, which allows the quantity or frequency of drug administered to be lowered and may also help reducing the stresses to the animals as well as labor costs.…”

“…Praziquantel is effective against a wide range of trematodes and cestodes in dogs and cats at a dose of 5 mg/kg, being generally less effective against nematodes [8], [31]. It is not registered for use in pigs.…”

“…Since their introduction in the early 60s, they have had a major impact on safe and effective management of helminths in both humans and animals [6], [7]. Praziquantel, on the other hand, is a prazinoisoquinoline derivative, and is highly effective against a broad range of trematodes and cestodes [8]. Nitazoxanide is a nitrothiazolyl-salicylamide derivative, the prodrug which is metabolised to form tizoxanide, the main active metabolite [9].…”
