Practice guidelines for management of cervical cancer in Korea: a Korean Society of Gynecologic Oncology Consensus Statement

Abstract: Clinical practice guidelines for gynecologic cancers have been developed by academic society from several countries. Each guideline reflected their own insurance system and unique medical environment, based on the published evidence. The Korean Society of Gynecologic Oncology (KSGO) published the first edition of practice guidelines for gynecologic cancer treatment in late 2006; the second edition was released in July 2010 as an evidence-based recommendation. The Guidelines Revision Committee was established i… Show more

“…In the practice guidelines for cervical cancer recently revised by KSGO [ 21 ], the following question was selected as nine key questions arising in clinical situations: “Does simple trachelectomy or conization have similar survival outcome with radical trachelectomy in cervical cancer stage IA1 patients with LVSI who want to preserve fertility?” The following recommendation was suggested by the KSGO Executive Committee: “Simple trachelectomy or conization could be performed for cervical cancer IA1 patients with LVSI who want to preserve fertility, based on the similar survival outcomes from radical trachelectomy (Recommendation grade 2 = weak; Evidence level D = very low).” The “evidence profile” according to the GRADE system is shown in S4 Table .…”

“…Third, the follow-up duration was not long enough to ensure the long-term oncological outcomes with the weighted mean periods of included studies of 43 months. For these reasons, the strength of recommendation was determined as weak and the level of evidence as very low in the practice guidelines for cervical cancer by KSGO [ 21 ].…”

“…Additionally, a positive correlation was determined between overexpression of hypoxia-inducible factor 1-alpha (HIF-1α) and DDX3 expression in breast cancer [ 26 ]. Cervical cancer is one of the major cancer deaths observed in women and is ranked fourth among female cancers [ 27 ]. Therefore, in the current investigation, we aimed at finding a natural compound as an inhibitor for DDX3 in three cell lines.…”

“…However, radical trachelectomy, performed either by vaginal and abdominal route, represents as an effective treatment option with a survival rate of 95-98% in patients who desire fertility [2,3]. Many guidelines propose radical trachelectomy with lymphadenectomy for early cervical cancer patients who wish to preserve fertility [4][5][6]. However, radical trachelectomy has some morbidities.…”
