Practical Investigation on the Strengthening of the Built-Up Steel Main Girder of a Metro Station with Carbon-Fiber-Reinforced Polymer on the Inside Part of the Tensioned Flange

Abstract: This study investigates the effectiveness of a carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) in enhancing the load-carrying capacity of a steel main girder in a metro station. The objective is to evaluate the applicability of CFRPs in sustaining increases in applied loads and assessing their effectiveness on curved surfaces. Finite element analysis (FEA) identified the most stressed areas of the girder under design loads. Based on the FEA results, a targeted strengthening procedure using CFRP sheets was proposed.
