Practical Implementation of the Backstepping Sliding Mode Controller MPPT for a PV-Storage Application

Abstract: This study presents a design and an implementation of a robust Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) for a stand-alone photovoltaic (PV) system with battery storage. A new control scheme is applied for the boost converter based on the combination of the adaptive perturb and observe fuzzy logic controller (P&O-FLC) MPPT technique and the backstepping sliding mode control (BS-SMC) approach. The MPPT controller design was used to accurately track the PV operating point to its maximum power point (MPP) under cha… Show more

“…The converters connected to solar PV unit must be capable to track the PV array's maximum output continuously based on impedance matching. 20 Impedance matching is the process of matching the intermittent input impedance of the converter to its output impedance, so that the output side gets the maximum power. 22 This impedance matching is carried out by varying the duty ratio of the switching pulse of IQBC.…”

“…A storage system associated with PV generators in smart homes and electrical vehicles, responsible for ensuring the supply at all times and for several days despite the intermittent nature of the production. The reduction of the system cost, requires the use of a controller for a thorough and careful search of the maximum power point (MPPT) in changing atmospheric conditions .In order to increase the productivity and efficiency of a PV system [4], [5]. This control system consists of a power converter inserted between the PV source and the load; the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) is achieved by the duty cycle of the converter.…”
