“…The data collection approach, also referred to as “photo-elicitation” or “photovoice”, terms often used interchangeably, was first described in 1997 as a form of community-based participatory research used to address health and social justice issues by engaging participants in the research process as active documentarians, commentators, and agents of social and political change (Catalani & Minkler, 2010). It has been found useful in exploring issues that may be difficult to verbalize (Balmer, Griffiths, & Dunn, 2015), especially among vulnerable populations (Bugos et al, 2014), and when studying palliative and EoL care (anonymized reference, Moore, Carter, Hunt, & Sheikh, 2013)).
