POX Controller and Open Flow Performance Evaluation in Software Defined Networks (SDN) Using Mininet Emulator

Abstract: Growing popularity of Internet demands for the agility as well as the flexibility of computer networks. Traditional networking system is unable to satisfy recent computing needs. Proprietary devices configured manually create an error-prone situation in addition they are incapable to fully utilize the capability of physical network infrastructure. This has resulted in the paradigm shift in the networking industry and it is known as Software defined networking. Advantages such as programmability, task virtualiz… Show more

“…The datainfrastructure plane's layer oversees forwarding packets and monitoring local data. The control layer, also known as the network operating system (NOS), contains the network's intelligence and provides centralised control over the data plane [16]. It comprises of a logically centralised controller that controls the forwarding elements in concert.…”

“…The second version focused on improving ONOS performance in core network traffic engineering and scheduling. In [13] authors use a comparison of performance metrics such as delay, bandwidth, and received packets using network monitoring tools like IPERF and D-ITG to analyze the functionality of the POX controller. The results of this research were the recommendation of using a POX controller.…”
