Power Transformer Fault Diagnosis Based on Dissolved Gas Analysis by Correlation Coefficient-DBSCAN

Abstract: The transformers work in a complex environment, which makes them prone to failure. Dissolved gas analysis (DGA) is one of the most important methods for oil-immersed transformers’ internal insulation fault diagnosis. In view of the high correlation of the same fault data of transformers, this paper proposes a new method for transformers’ fault diagnosis based on correlation coefficient density clustering, which uses density clustering to extrapolate the correlation coefficient of DGA data. Firstly, we calculat… Show more

“…Distribution and power transformers operate in multifarious environments that makes them susceptible to generic failures whose consequence is prolonged episodes of power outages and disrupted economic activity [29]. Unlike overhead conductors that are easy to troubleshoot and repair, transformers are factory sealed thus depriving engineers and technicians the opportunity to inspect their internal components.…”

“…Power transformers (PTs) are essential to maintain the stable operation of a power grid. There is a massive number of transformers in service, and internal faults occur in the long-term ageing process [1]. However, conducting maintenance with system outage or assessment of the transformer means considering the expenditure and time due to production loss.…”

“…The power transformer is one of the most expensive and important pieces of equipment in the electrical system. As such, it plays a major role in the safe and stable operation of the power grid [1]. The failure of a power transformer during operation can result in a serious breakdown of the power grid, leading to interruptions in the transmission and distribution of electricity, environmental damage, risks of explosion and fire, and costly financial losses due to repairs or replacements [2].…”
