Power System Stabilizers Design for Multimachine Power Systems Using Local Measurements

Abstract: In this paper, a technique for designing fixed parameter decentralized power system stabilizers (PSSs) for interconnected power systems is proposed. In the proposed method, local information available at each machine in the multimachine environment, is used to tune parameters of PSS. Conventional design techniques such as P-Vr frequency response approaches, and the method of residues are based on complete system information, wherein phase angles of residues are consistent with the P-Vr phase response and can b… Show more

“…A single-machine non-stiff bus (SMNB) is a model that considers changes in the magnitude and phase of the connected power system voltage and is used to make up for the shortcomings of a conventional K-constant model [16,17]. Therefore, the use of the SMNB model (see Figure 6) could consider the effects of the weak system in parameters of the µPSS, so PSO is performed with the model.…”

“…In [16], Gurrala et al develop a method of designing a fixedparameter decentralized PSS for interconnected multi-machine power systems. In [17], an advanced method of [16] for designing PSS parameters is suggested by proposing a synthesized equivalent bus using local measurements available at the power station. The advantage of the method following the tuning guide is that it is easy to find the general parameter.…”

“…Normally, the frequency of electromechanical oscillations is ranging from 0.1 to 2.0 Hz [41]. Therefore, the dynamics of STATCOM's current control, i.e., 1 τs+1 , can be approximated by a unity gain as τ is much smaller than the oscillation frequency.…”

“…The multi-operating conditions and multi-machine damping coupling must be considered when a robust parameter tuning method for a PSS is designed. Many different algorithms have been proposed to optimize the parameters of multi-machine power system stabilizers in [25][26][27][28][29] researched by Abido. Tse, C.T.…”
