Power Optimization Configuration for Piezoelectric Cantilever Arrays

Abstract: Abstract. This paper investigates the changes in the output of the piezoelectric cantilever arrays when connected in different configurations. In this research matching load resistance determined and optimum output was measured by connecting the piezoelectric cantilever arrays to resistance ranging from 10 Ω to 1 MΩ while excited by constant vibration source at frequency of 300 Hz and acceleration of 1-g level. The result shows that matching load resistance for one single piezoelectric cantilever is 13 KΩ. Whe… Show more

“…From Figure 18, it is observed that when using one PZT with 1500 rpm and four planet covers connected to a load of 50 kΩ, the output voltage is 8.7 V with an output power of 1.513 mW. When two PZTs are used, the optimum resistance reduces and becomes 40 kΩ because increasing the PZT number will reduce the optimum load [66]. Moreover, the output voltage becomes 11.7 V, which is not double; however, the output power becomes 3.42 mW.…”

“…A few EH concepts have been proposed, where an array of PE beams was used [41,21,42]. The power output from an array of PE beams was analysed in [43] with no consideration to charge cancellation due to phase shift, which resulted in relative low power output.…”
