Power‐efficient D2D relaying cellular network access

Abstract: Device‐to‐device (D2D) communications are exploited in this paper to assist remote user equipments (UEs) access the cellular network with reduced energy consumption. A power‐efficient relay selection criterion is proposed to guarantee that the power saved by D2D relaying access exceeds a given threshold. Then, the relay selection criterion is equivalently transformed into a region constraint, based on which the success probability of D2D relaying access is derived. Furthermore, the power consumption of D2D rel… Show more

“…The devices do not know the cache status of others, and for future predictions they tune to average values for the calculation of prospective energy figures. In (6), the expected energy consumption for a transmission of some unit u from the BS cache is calculated similar to the E (u) D2D . When we consider the fourth scenario, the content unit retrieval basically branches into two parts: i) from the universal source to the BS cache, ii) from the BS cache to the requester device.…”

“…In the same vein, Device-to-Device (D2D) communication technique is beneficial in terms of various aspects such as delay reduction, improved data rates, boosted spectral efficiency in addition to reduced energy consumption [5]. D2D mechanism can be used as a relaying factor to improve the power-efficiency of cellular networks [6]. It also improves the radio resource utilization to alleviate the communication coverage challenges in cellular systems [7].…”
