Power Density Evaluation of a Novel Double-Stator Magnetic Geared Permanent Magnet Generator

Abstract: Abstract-This paper presents the power density evaluation and power mapping performance of a novel magnetic geared double-stator permanent magnet generator (DSPMG) which is proposed to address problems of mechanical geared generators for low-speed power generation applications. The operating principle is based on three PM rotors consisting of prime permanent-magnet (PM) poles in the middle rotor and field PM poles in the inner and outer rotors respectively. To evaluate the power density performance, a 2-D fini… Show more

“…Many different topologies of the double-stator permanent magnet (DSPM) machine are being investigated lately, due its advantages over the single stator permanent magnet machines of similar size. It is proved that DSPM machines have superior electromagnetic performance than their single-stator equivalents, as justified in [1] and [2]; though, these virtues are usually at a higher cost consequence with increased machine structural complexity. Therefore, a new type of a high-performance double-stator permanent magnet machine having alternating current (AC) windings on both the inner and outer stators is proposed and compared in this present study, in order to obtain an improved overall machine performance.…”

“…The single stator system is the simplest one which is used in conventional generators. The dual stator system provides high power generation in comparison to a single stator [29]. There are total two air gaps in this dual stator system, which results in the addition of the Magnetomotive Force (MMF) created by the inner and outer sets of magnets in the rotor.…”

“…Besides using the MG for speed conversion of a motor, some researchers developed a new structure of MG with dual-iron ring which is integrated with a generator. The integration between the MG and generator produced higher power density for low-speed applications, such as wind turbine [13][14][15][16].…”
