Resumo -Este trabalho apresenta uma análise de cargas lineares e não lineares em condições senoidais e não senoidais para verificar seu comportamento como "fonte de tensão" ou "fonte de corrente" distorciva. Discute ainda problemas relacionados com a medição e tarifação da energia no ponto de acoplamento comum. Para tanto é utilizada a Teoria de Potência Conservativa para encontrar circuitos equivalentes e a partir destes circuitos analisar as principais características das cargas lineares e/ou não lineares bem com o tipo de não linearidades presentes. As análises são comprovadas com base em simulações e dados experimentais de cargas típicas de uso residencial e industrial. Além disso, será discutida a adequação do fator de potência como indicador apropriado para caracterizar e penalizar o consumidor (carga) quando também é produtor (gerador), situação comumente encontrada em microrredes. Palavras-Chave LINEAR AND NONLINEAR LOAD CHARACTERIZATION UNDER NON SINUSOIDAL CONDITIONSAbstract -This paper presents an analysis of linear and non-linear loads under sinusoidal and non-sinusoidal operation to verify their behavior as harmonic "voltage source" or "current source". Harmonic related problems involving the revenue metering at point of common coupling are also discussed. Conservative Power Theory is used to build equivalent circuits, used to analyze the main features of those loads, as well as the type of nonlinearities present. Simulation and laboratory tests are realized in order to support the theoretical conclusions. Moreover, it is shown that the power factor may not be a confident indicator for load characterization in the case a consumer is also an energy producer (generator), as commonly occurs in smart microgrids.

Power systems suffer from harmonic distortion and extra ohmic losses associated with them. Moreover, all harmonic frequencies are mostly assumed to have the same effect on the system losses. However, the frequency-dependency of the resistances should be taken into account, so that the apparent power and the power factor have to considerably reflect power losses under non-sinusoidal conditions. In this study, the difference between unweighted and weighted non-sinusoidal losses is addressed. A new harmonic-adjusted total harmonic distortion (THD) definition is proposed for both voltage and current. Besides, a new formula that relates the proposed harmonic-adjusted THD and a generalised harmonic derating factor definition of the frequency-dependent losses of the power transmission and distribution equipment is derived. An optimal C-type passive filter design for harmonic mitigation and power factor correction based on the minimisation of the proposed harmonic-adjusted THD for a balanced non-sinusoidal system is introduced. A comparative study of the proposed filter design based on the new harmonic-adjusted definition, and a conventional filter design based on standard THD definition, is presented.
