“…38 In addition, it has been shown that povidone-iodine can also be cytotoxic to corneal cells. 39 In our study, more patient discomfort, such as stinging, was observed in the dexamethasone 0.1%/povidoneiodine 0.4% group, although both solutions contain components that produces discomfort. Although there are no studies in the literature evaluating the in vivo effects of isolated BAC on patients with viral conjunctivitis, BAC demonstrated potent in vitro activity against the majority of microorganisms, including adenovirus.…”

“…[45] The free iodine part of PVI (0.1%, 1%, and 5%) is a strong oxidizing agent that inhibits cell growth and destabilize membrane integrity of host cells and microorganisms through immediate irreversible inhibition of mitochondrial dehydrogenase and intracellular esterase activity. [6]…”

“…[27][28][29] Because it also acts directly on the membrane proteins of normal cells, identifying the safe and at the same time effective concentration range becomes important. 11,18,30,31 Until recently, iodine has been used only for disinfection of the ocular surface prior to surgery. Recently, the method of washing the surface of the eye with PI or PAI every 20 to 30 seconds during cataract or vitreous surgery has become widely used mainly in Japan.…”
