Afin d’accompagner de jeunes lycéens dans la lecture de la tragédie Britannicus de Racine, un jeu de rôle, proche du théâtre d’improvisation, est mis en place : chaque élève est associé à un personnage qu’il interprète et développe dans ses interactions avec ses pairs. La recherche s’appuie sur l’hypothèse que l’articulation de la sphère dramaturgique et de la sphère ludologique aiderait les jeunes lecteurs à développer à la fois une lecture empathique et émotionnelle et une compréhension voire une interprétation du texte. La présente réflexion se développe en trois temps : il s’agit tout d’abord d’observer en quoi cette séance, menée dans un contexte scolaire, permet de faire émerger un théâtre d’improvisation autour de la tragédie racinienne, qui engage – et c’est le deuxième temps – les élèves, et même les plus réfractaires à la lecture de la pièce. Enfin, nous verrons comment les échanges spontanés entre pairs permettent une avancée collaborative dans la compréhension du texte.
