Abstract:“Byzantine” pottery covers a period of about 1,000 years so has necessarily changed considerably over that time. Knowledge of the manufacture and dissemination of Byzantine pottery has increased greatly in the last ten years through a rigorous examination of associated coin evidence for dating and through expanded programs of scientific testing of ceramics.
The main shifts in production and consumption patterns are examined here.
