Potentially Toxic Elements in Oasis Agricultural Soils Caused by High-Intensity Exploitation in the Piedmont Zone of the Tianshan Mountains, China

Abstract: Considering the pollution of potentially toxic elements (PTEs) in the soils of China, the present study analyzed the current state and influencing factors of PTEs in oasis soils using the model of absolute principal component score–multiple linear regression in the piedmont zone of the Tianshan Mountains. The possible non-carcinogenic and carcinogenic risks of PTEs at current concentrations were also explored using a human-health risk-assessment model. The results suggested that the extent to which potentially… Show more

“…Compared with the PTE concentrations in the agricultural soil of oases in other arid areas, the concentrations of Cd, Cu and V in the soil of the study area were lower than those of the Bortala River Basin and Ili River Basin 3 in the northern Tianshan Mountains, while the concentrations of Co, Ni, Pb and Zn were similar to those of corresponding elements in agricultural soil of the Bortala River Basin and Ili River Basin 3 . Compared with the concentrations of PTEs in agricultural soil of Wuwei and Jiuquan cities in the Hexi Corridor 62 , 63 , the concentrations of Cu, Ni, Pb and V elements in agricultural soil of the four oases in the study area were lower.…”

“…Samples used for salinity analysis were collected at a depth of 0-20 cm, we then mixed the collected samples after removing stones, plastic, and other debris. Finally, approximately 1 kg of the soil sample was preserved by quartering [34] and transported to the laboratory, while the surplus soil was abandoned. During the sampling period, the soil sample number and location information were also recorded.…”
