Potential use of microcapsules in manufacture of fibrous products: A review

Abstract: ABSTARCT: The present survey shows that microcapsules are used as effective tools for modification and functionalization of fibrous products. The core and shell materials of microcapsules can comprise various active ingredients in accordance with different requirements of final fibrous products. In this survey, the morphology, functional properties and added values of microcapsules, also such advanced types as nanocapsules, bi-, multifunctional microcapsules, and their applications in smart and other modern pr… Show more

“…Besides, microencapsulation processes for textile functionalization are significantly encouraged since they give the possibility of producing a high volume of suitable microparticles at low cost (Nelson 2002). The microencapsulation of phase change materials (Jamekhorshid et al 2014), and essential oils (Sutaphanit and Chitprasert 2014;Patil et al 2016), are the most successful examples of encapsulated active materials for textile functionalization (Petrulis and Petrulyte 2019).…”

“…Petrulis and Petrulyte presented in their review, that the synthesis of fragrance delivery systems can be performed using methods like extrusion, grinding, spray coating, coacervation, and inclusion of complexes with cyclodextrins and they described each method. 142 Strategies for encapsulation of bioactive oils are described for Rodríguez et al, including methods to produce microparticles, nanoparticles, lipid nanoparticles, liposomes, and so on. 21 Rezaul, Shishir, and Ferdowsi show in their review many methods for encapsulating flavor and aroma compounds.…”

“…Petrulis and Petrulyte presented a list of various materials used for encapsulation, like polymers, biomolecules, and porous materials. 142 In Table 1, the crosslinker more cited are glutaraldehyde and TPP, and as surfactants are Tween and Span. Observing the active substances, the applications of the microcapsules are for antimicrobial, fragrance, antioxidant, and medical.…”

“…The phase change material absorbs or releases a large amount of heat, and the temperature of the microcapsule itself remains constant, to achieve the effect of intelligent temperature regulation [ 10 , 11 , 12 , 13 ]. Phase change microcapsules with temperature regulation ability are widely used in construction [ 14 , 15 , 16 , 17 , 18 ], solar energy [ 19 ], food industry [ 20 ], textile [ 21 , 22 ], and other fields.…”
