The article contains research on use of open and specialized geoinformation systems to prepare students and postgraduates on specialties: 101 “Environmental Sciences”, 103 “Earth Sciences”, 122 “Computer Sciences”, 183 “Environmental Technologies”. Analysis of the most common world open geoinformation systems is done. Experience of geoinformation systems use for students and postgraduates teaching for different specialties is described. Predominant orientation towards the use of geoinformation systems in educational process is determined based on the analysis of scientific publications and curricula of the most popular Ukrainian universities. According to the authors the material that is given narrows knowledge and skills of students and postgraduates, particularly in computer modeling. It is concluded that ability of students and postgraduates to use geoinformation systems is interdisciplinary. In particular, it develops knowledge and skills in computer modeling of various processes that may arise in the further professional activity. Examples of professional issues and ways to solve them using geoinformation systems are given. Recommendations are given on the use of open and specialized geoinformation systems in the educational process. It is recommended to use both proprietary (ArcGis, MapInfo) and open GIS (uDIG, QGIS, Whitebox GAT) to teach students. Open GIS (uDIG, QGIS, Whitebox GAT) and specialized (Modular GIS Environment, GEO + CAD, GeoniCS, AISEEM) can be used to teach both students and postgraduates.

The purpose of this article is to identify the key ideas of cognitive geography related to the modeling of images of space, and present them as a theoretical and methodological tool for updating the content of school geography. The paper discusses the methodological features of perception and processing of information related to the formation of the image of geographical space in schoolchildren. The cognitive limitations of traditional teaching methods reinforced by the features of clip thinking of modern teenagers are revealed. The possibilities of implementing the relationship between cognitive and information technologies in the formation of spatial thinking in the process of organizing educational and cognitive activities are considered. The analysis of didactic possibilities of digital technologies, which are most often used in teaching geography at school, is performed. It is proposed to use GIS technologies and modeling in the aspect of combination with traditional abstract-logical and sign-symbolic schemes as the most effective for creating a digital image of the territory. The advantages of digital technologies that optimize the process of forming spatial thinking in cognitive geography are considered on the examples of solving different types of educational and cognitive tasks.

The use of specialized software for liquid radioactive material spills simulation to teach students and postgraduate students

The study proves relevance of specialized software use to solve problems of emergencies prevention of radioactive liquids spills to teach students and graduate students. Main assessment criteria of accidents at radiation-hazardous objects associated with radioactive liquids spillage is identified. A model of radioactive substances transport in emergency rooms is developed. It takes into account physical features of radioactive liquid spill from the source, air pollution during transition of radioactive liquid from the spill surface into the air and subsequent scattering in the emergency room under influence of local air flows. It is determined that the existing software tools for radiation exposure assessment do not comprehensively cover features of such events and possess number of shortcomings regarding accidents modeling with spillage of radioactive liquids indoors. Computer modeling and forecasting examples for hypothetical event related to liquid radioactive spill in the JRODOS system are presented. The training process of future specialists, specialties 183 “Environmental Protection Technologies”, 143 “Nuclear Energy”, 103 “Earth Sciences”, and 122 “Computer Science” should be based on application of powerful scientific and methodological training base using modern achievements in the field of digital technologies. It is advisable to supplement curricula for students` and postgraduate students’ preparation in the mentioned above specialties by studying issues related to: development of mathematical models and software for solving problems of emergencies prevention in case of radioactive liquids spills; usage of features of specialized decision software of emergencies prevention during spills of radioactive liquids.
