Potential of Sawdust as a Green and Economical Sorbent for Simultaneous Preconcentration of Trace Amounts of Cadmium, Cobalt, and Lead from Water, Biological, Food, and Herbal Samples

Abstract: Application of treated sawdust with NaOH as a green and economical sorbent for simultaneous preconcentration of trace amounts of Cd(II), Co(II), and Pb(II) ions from liver, lettuce, fish, and water as test samples with complicated matrices was investigated. Various parameters, such as effect of pH and contact time, breakthrough volume, type, and concentration of eluent and interference of ions were studied. The sorption was quantitative in the pH of 5.0 to 7.0 and desorption occurred instantaneously with 5.0 m… Show more

“…The samples were reuxed for 2 h at 90 C, and then the temperature was increased to 120 C until the evolution of brown fumes ceased, followed by addition of 10 mL of hydrogen peroxide (30%). 42,43 The digestion ask was heated slightly on a hot plate until the sample solutions became clear. Samples were cooled to room temperature, ltered through lter paper and made up to volume in a 100 mL ask.…”

“…Uçar et al (2014) reported the utilization of an agricultural waste, natural sorghum, for the extraction of different metal ions in water and tea samples. Baki et al (2013) evaluated the application of NaOH treated sawdust to separate and preconcentrate the Cd(II), Co(II), and Pb(II) ions in fish, liver, lettuce, and water samples.…”

“…Lead has a wide range of application among thw heavy metals. Tetraethyl and tetramethyl lead which penetrate in fluids and food chain are the main source of environment's pollutions [4]. Lead has many detriments for human health and may accumulate at liver, bones, and muscles [5,6].…”
