Potential of palm biomass as renewable energy source from data analysis of Sua Manggis palm oil mill in Linggi, Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia

Abstract: There are various types of renewable energy such as wind, tidal, solar, hydro, geothermal heat, as well as biomass or biogas. One renewable energy resource that has good potential in Malaysia is biomass, which is harvested from agricultural residue. Apart from hydroelectric generators which use water to run, solar energy from sunlight, or wind turbines, which are more popular worldwide. The biomass energy is the most practical way to produce energy because Malaysia has an abundance of natural resources. Malays… Show more

“…The authors observed that the major waste from the operations of JOM includes empty fruit bunches (EFBs), fibre and effluent (sludge). 21,43,44 As earlier indicated, the Company obtains its raw materials from private farm holders, out-growers farms and nucleus estate of the Company. This, in a way, provided jobs to farmers in the community, where farmers were given loans (those operating the out-grower farms) to engage in palm kernel production.…”

“…Over the years, Asian countries have proven that the production of oil palm generates enough income and revenue to aid the development of an economy. [19][20][21][22][23] There have however been studies indicating that palm oil is being used as a constituent in bio-diesel and a fuel to 'be burnt in power stations to generate electricity'. This potential has created a new market and demand for the crop.…”
