Potential of babassu biofuels use as aviation fuel

Abstract: Through a review of the bibliographic base was identified the potential and difficulties of using biofuels based on babassu culture for use as aviation biofuel. Babassu palm is one of the most important crops for family farming in the north and northeast of Brazil due to its vast use potential. From babassu oil, by transesterification, good quality biodiesel can be obtained. However, it does not have the properties necessary to be used as aviation biofuel. Researches with biofuels from this culture and culture… Show more

“…Taken as a whole, these compositions are in agreement with the widespread conviction [1,4,32,33] that exotic plants occurring in the semi-arid Caatinga of northeastern Brazil have potential as renewable oil sources for diffrent biofuels, particularly biodiesel and aviation biokerosene, which will be the focus of the following sections of this review. In this survey of catalytic routes for biodiesel production, it is important to provide a brief explanation of each of them, i.e., esterification (usually a pretreatment), transesterification, pyrolysis, ultrasound process and reactive distillation, with the first two, approved by ANP, being used by the main Brazilian factories in this field.…”
