Potential nanotherapeutic strategies for perioperative stroke

Abstract: With the advent of "global aging," stroke has become the world's second-deadliest disease after coronary heart disease, accounting for 10%-15% of global deaths. [1][2][3] The perioperative period can be a high-risk period for stroke because of the pathophysiological state of the patient, which is based on the disease, anesthesia, functional changes in the coagulation system and pharmacological factors. [4][5][6] Recently, the number of patients with perioperative acute ischemic stroke (PAIS) has increased sign… Show more

“…An individualized treatment approach is recommended based on types of malignancies and stroke severities. [90][91][92][93] Moreover, MAS patients with Trousseau syndrome typically have poor survival. Therefore, there is a need to determine the effectiveness of rehabilitation treatment and develop a comprehensive treatment strategy earlier than that in the general stroke population.…”

“…These include using gases (such as hydrogen, argon, or xenon), pharmaceuticals (eg, nerinetide to counteract oxidative stress), immune or stem cell therapies (Treg and mesenchymal lymphocytes or neural stem cells, respectively) and the use of preconditioning or follow-up procedures [ 22 ]. The hope in therapy is also to use the possibilities of nanotechnology, which makes it possible to use nanoparticles as nanocarriers to precisely deliver drugs with revascularization, anti-inflammatory, neuroregenerative, or anti-reactive oxygen species effects to brain tissue [ 28 ].…”
