Potential lncRNA diagnostic biomarkers for early gastric cancer

Abstract: Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) serve important functions in many crucial biological processes; however, the effects of lncRNAs in early gastric cancer (EGC) are not entirely clear. The present study aimed to demonstrate the potential of lncRNAs to be used as biomarkers in EGC. Reverse transcription‑quantitative polymerase chain reaction was used to measure the expression levels of lncRNAs, including X inactive‑specific transcript (XIST), Yiya, brain cytoplasmic RNA 1 (BCYRN1), ribosomal RNA processing 1B (RRP1B… Show more

“…Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) is known as a type of noncoding RNA with over 200 nucleotides in length and non-protein coding ability. 8 It has been certified that abnormal expression of lncRNAs plays a vital role in the progression of various cancers such as ovarian cancer, 9 colon cancer 10 and gastric cancer. 11 Therefore, studying lncRNAs may be of great value in exploring the occurrence and development of tumors.…”

“…26 The AUC for EGC of XIST and RRP1B were reported to be 0.733 and 0.753, and the sensitivity and specificity were 0.846 and 0.590, and 0.859 and 0.564, respectively. 27,28 The specificity of serum p53 antibody for EGC diagnosis was as high as 99.15%, but the sensitivity was as low as 12.35%. 29 The sensitivity and specificity of serum pepsinogen and gastrin 17 in the diagnosis of EGC were 83% and 68%, respectively.…”

“…H19 in plasma enabled the discrimination of early-stage Gc from controls with an AUc of 0.877 (93). Lu et al (105) also developed a panel of five lncRNAs in tumor tissues with high values of early diagnosis, which helps to identify indistinguishable focus in endoscopy. The single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) rs4759314, which contributes to a genotype-specific effect on the expression of the host gene HOTAIR, has been shown to be closely associated with the risk of developing Gc in chinese populations (106).…”
