Potential Association between Anterior Cruciate Ligament Tear and “Bi-Collateral” Ligamentous Rupture: A Retrospective Study

Abstract: Background: Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tears are common complications of knee trauma. This entity can be reliably diagnosed by Magnetic Resonance Imaging. There is a lack of data on the epidemiology of ACL tears in Sub-Saharan Africa. The aim of this study is to describe the radiological aspects of post traumatic ACL tears in a black African setting (Yaounde Teaching Hospital). Methods: ninety six (96) MR studies of the knee were retrospectively reviewed. They were realized on a low field device (0.2T) f… Show more

“…Apart from gender-balanced studies of SonneryCottet et al [7] in France and Helen C. Smith et al [8] in USA who have a majority of female, the male is more represented in most studies. Tapouh et al [2] in Cameroon, found 70.8% males with a sex ratio of 2.43 in a population with knee trauma, Tomas Fernandez-Jaen et al [9] in Spain found 224 men and 84 Women in a population with ACL ruptures, Freychet et al [6] The mean age was 36.6 years in the study population, with a mean of 37.48 years in the control group and 35.5 years in the case group. Tapouh et al [2] who found a mean age of 35.36 years in Cameroonian population found similar results.…”

“…In Senegal Bassène et al had recovered respective prevalence of esophageal varices (VO) grade 2 and 3 of 24.3% and 75.7% [7]. In Cameroon, Tapouh et al had a prevalence of 92% VO in cirrhotic patients [8]. The predictive factors of endoscopic PH lesions in cirrhotic patients are first the platelet rate 150.109/mm 3 , the value of elastometry 20 kPa [9]; but also the rate of prothrombin, spleen size, albumin [8] [10].…”
