Potential Application of HRTSim for Comprehensive Simulation of Large-Scale Power Systems with Distributed Generation

Abstract: Currently, the number of distributed generation (DG) objects in the world is growing mainly due to renewable energy sources (RES). However, the integration of a large volume of DG based on RES into existing electric power systems (EPS) is associated with a number of significant problems. For a comprehensive study and solution of these problems, it is necessary to carry out detailed simulation of real EPS, which is not always feasible with the help of existing tools. Therefore, the article proposes the use of a… Show more

“…The reliability of the simulation results obtained via HRTSim is proved by comparison with the field data [27] and widely used hardware and software fully digital multiprocessors simulators like RTDS [28]. The comparisons of the simulation results obtained via the HRTSim and RTDS are carried out just for small schemes.…”

“…The comparisons of the simulation results obtained via the HRTSim and RTDS are carried out just for small schemes. The complexity of reliable numerical integration for small scheme and the problems of large-scale EPS simulation via digital simulators [28] are not manifested. Therefore obtained by digital multiprocessors simulators results can be considered reliable for small schemes and make comparison with them.…”

“…The main issue is that obtaining probabilistic characteristics by standard statistical methods does not have a comprehensive solution [3]. Unlike conventional generating units (synchronous generators), the output characteristics of RES depend on the geographic features of the area where the units are installed, the season and the average wind speed [4].…”

“…However, the digital HSSs have their own problems and their various solutions for large-scale EPS simulation [24]. Nevertheless, there are serious limitations in such modelling [25]. In this regard, most of the calculations for transient stability analysis are currently performed using STs discussed in this paper.…”
