Diazotization of 3-methyl-4-phenyl-1H-pyrazol-5-amine 1 in hydrochloric acid has been reported to afford the corresponding diazonium salt 2. The latter underwent azocoupling with a variety of active methylene compounds (barbituric 3a and thiobarbituric 3b acid, 2-hetarylpyrimidine-4,6-dione 6a,b, 4-hydroxy-6-methylpyridin-2(1H)-one 10a, 4-hydroxy-6-methyl-2H-pyran-2-one 10b, 4-hydroxy-1-p-tolyl-1H-pyrazole-3-carboxylic acid ethyl ester 14, 1,3-thiazolidine-2,4-dione 16a, 2-thioxo-1,3-thiazolidin-4one 16b) to yield new pyrazolylazo derivatives. As a part of systematic investigation of synthesis and biological activity of 4-oxothiazolidines and their 5-arylidene derivatives several [N 1-(2-aryl-4-oxo-1,3-thiazolidinylamino)acetyl]-2-methylimidazoles 4a-j and [N 1-(5-arylidene-2-aryl-4-oxo-1,3-thiazolidinylamino)acetyl]-2-methylimidazoles 5a-j have been synthesized from N 1-(hydrazinoacetyl)-2-methylimidazole, 2, using 2-methylimidazole as the starting material. All the synthesized products were evaluated for their antifungal activity against Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus flavus, Fusarium oxisporium and Trichoderma viride and antibacterial activity against Bacillus substilis, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoneae and Streptococcus aureus respectively. The structures of all the synthesized compounds have been determined by their spectral and microanalytical data.

In this study, a series of phenylefhylsul-fanyl-1,3-thiazolo-thiazolidine-2,4-dione derivatives (VII a ?f, VIII a?f) and 5-methyl-[1,2,4] triazolyl-sulfanyl-1,3-fhia-zolo-thiazolidine-2,4-dione derivatives (IXa?f, Xa?f) were synthesized and evaluated for their antibacterial and antifungal activities against S. aureus (ATCC 25923), methicillin resistant S. aureus (MRSA ATCC 43300), B. subtilis (ATCC 6633), E. coli (ATCC 23556) and C. albicans (ATCC10145). All the compounds were found active against used bacteria.
